How do you become a Freemason?
All you need to do is ask.
For a Fraternity steeped in over four hundred years of tradition, you might
think it is difficult to become a Mason.
It is. There is one major hurdle each candidate must pass.
They must ask.
Freemasonry in California accepts no one for membership unless they come of
their own free will and accord, having already obtained a favorable impression
of our Fraternity.
There are a few other requirements. You must:
- Be a man, over the age of eighteen.
- Believe in a Supreme Being.
- Live an ethical and moral life.
- Have a strong interest in the Fraternity and desire to participate in its
charities and its activities.
- We believe that men are first made Masons in their hearts, then they ask to join
our Fraternity. Freemasonry will take these men — good men in their communities
— and help them become better men.
Each man brings something different into the Fraternity, as different as the
types of men that become Masons. But each shares a common core of beliefs and of
dreams; each believes that, in a small way, by their actions they help make
their world, their communities, and themselves better.
How to Join Downey United
There are three easy steps you will need to follow in order to join Downey United Lodge #220.
- Print the Application for degrees and fill it out.
- Join us for dinner on Thursday night and bring the application with you. Talk to the officers and brothers and let them know that you want to join.
At some point during the evening two of them will sign your petition. * Note - it is not necessary to come only on a dinner night. You can come down to the lodge on any Thursday night at 6:30pm and someone will be there. Although it's a good idea to check the calendar or call ahead to make sure the
lodge is not dark that night. You can reach us at (562) 862-4176.
- After the application is signed and your questions are answered, the last remaining step is to remit your application fee. For your convenience we now
accept payments online through PayPal. There is a small fee of $2.25 for this convenience.
