From the West

Greeting from the West
Brethren I would like to start by thanking the Lodge for sending my wife and I to the Senior Warden's Retreat. It was a wonderful learning experience for both of us and we had a great time.
The retreat included various seminars designed to give us the working tools to improve and enhance Masonry in our lodges. The ultimate goal was to equip us to better meet the demands of today's society. The seminars were conducted in the lecture hall and lasted about two hours. We discussed various topics such as: social capital, Lodge finance, installation plans, and how to develop a leadership team, among other topics. Once our discussion concluded we broke out in groups and reviewed the topics more in detail. Each member was able to express his comments, suggestions, and concerns. Then we returned to the lecture hall and repeated the process, focusing on different topics each time. Throughout the retreat I was able to take notes that will be put to good use during my term as master.
There was also information on Masonic Assistance, which was shared with our wives as well. The covered information on Masonic outreach services; which consist of no-cost care management for those isolated, alone, or in declining health. Also, Residential Services for Masons and their widows was discussed.
We were also pleased to hear that in November of this year, a new center dedicated to serving children and families in need will be opening in San Francisco. Lastly, information on Annual Communication Registration Activities and the legislative process was presented.
Fraternally, Sergio Martinez, SW
